Dear Dater Students and Parents,
Please review the following college, scholarship, and testing information. Most of the scholarship applications can be obtained on-line and most organizations want you to complete this information by computer. Important January 2007 Events:
Monday, January 8th - Friday, January 13th - Sibling Enrollment. Any younger brother or sister of a current Dater student, may make an application to Dater High School for grades 7-10 in the 2006-07 school year. This is the only week for sibling applications.
Wednesday, January 17th - 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Financial Aid Night for seniors, in the Dater lunchroom. Janet Winter from U.C. will be present to explain the FASFA form.
Friday, January 19th - 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. U.C. will meet with seniors. Janet Winter, financial admissions officer will meet with any senior who has made an application to U.C. Students need to schedule an appointment with Mr. Grueninger to see Janet Winter. Parents are also welcome to attend.
Saturday, January 20th - 8:30 a.m.-12:30 a.m. SCPP Testing at Dater High School for students who wish to enter the college preparatory program at Dater for 2007-08. This is the last testing date this year. Register by calling 363-0181.
Monday, January 22nd - 8:45 a.m.-10:00 a.m. All 6th grade students from Covedale Elementary School will be visiting Dater High School .

SAT and ACT Information (return to table of contents)
All four year colleges require that a student has taken the SAT or the ACT. It will take at least four to six weeks for the results to be sent to the colleges. The SAT and ACT registration packets are in my office, or you can register on-line or by calling their offices and paying by credit card. Juniors have to take the new SAT and ACT which requires a writing section. Any student graduating in the class of 2006 should take the new ACT and new SAT since most colleges are requiring students to take this new test version.
Scholarship and Junior Visitation Information (return to table of contents)
ACT/SAT Tutoring Information from Martha Geller : Fee is $175 and classes are at Raymond Walters on Saturday’s and Sundays in April and May. Applications can be obtained in the counseling office.
Blue Ash Protective Association Scholarship: Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and have completed community service or been involved in school activities. Applications can be obtained in the counseling office. Deadline : March 24.
Cincinnati Branch of the NAACP / Dr. Milton W. Hinton Future Leaders Scholarship Fund for African-American Students. Applications can be obtained in the counseling office. Deadline: April 5 .
Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation Scholarships : All Dater students are eligible for this scholarship. This one scholarship application enables students to compete for over 80 scholarships, including the Dater Foundation Scholarship ($2500 per year for 4 years). Students may download this application at http://www.cincinnatischolarshipfoundation.org or in the counseling office. Deadline : April 30.
Conclave Radio Industry Scholarship for students interested in the radio or music industry. Application at: www.theconclave.com. Deadline: April 1.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship : Senior African-American females, must complete and application, essay, two letters of recommendation, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students should contact Mr. Grueninger in the counseling office for an application. Deadline is April 9th.
Educational Communications Scholarship Foundations : Any senior who has a SAT above 1150, ACT above 26. Deadline is May 15. Applications can be obtained in the counseling office.
Franciscan Medical Group $2000 Scholarship : Eligibility, senior who has been accepted at a nursing program, college or university in the field of nursing, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or physical therapy. Applications can be obtained in the counseling office. Deadline : April 1.
Indiana University School of Journalism Scholarship/Ferrees Freshman Scholarship Only for those students interested in attending Indiana University and majoring in Journalism should contact Mr. Grueninger to obtain this application for this scholarship.
James Kura Memorial $1000 Scholarship, sponsored by the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Qualifications : Senior student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher who will attend a four year college in the Fall. Must submit a 2 page essay on “ the death penalty for people under the age of 18”. Students should contact Mr. Grueninger in the counseling office for an application. Deadline is April 15.
Malcolm P. Adcock Memorial $1000 Scholarship : Criteria : African-American seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, essay included, community service, and school related activities. Application at : www.hoxworth.org/scholarships, or applications can be obtained in the counseling office. Deadline: March 24.
Marie McKeown & Mildred Stueber Memorial Scholarships, $1000 each, for students interested in the field of Administrative/Office Technology: Applications can be obtained in the counseling office. Deadline: April 8.
Muskingum College “Plus Program” for students with ADHD or other learning disabilities . Interested students and their parents should contact Eileen Henry at 740-826-8289 and arrange a college visit.
National Federation of Independent Business Scholarship Senior students interested in free enterprise and have demonstrated achievement in an entrepreneurial area. Students can obtain an application at: www.scholarshipadministrators.net. Access code is NFIB. Applications will only be accepted starting January 1- March 15.
National Sorority of PHI Delta Kappa, Inc. Undergraduate Scholarship : Student will enter the field of education, show need based upon family income, ACT or SAT scores, a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applications can be obtained in the counseling office. Deadline: July 1.
Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools : Applications can be obtained in the counseling office. Deadline: March 18.
Ohio Board of Regents / Nursing Loan and Scholarship : For students who are enrolled in a nursing program in the state of Ohio . Deadline : June 1. Call 1-888-833-1133, extension 64818 or 1-614-466-4818 for an application.

Ohio State Bar Association, There Ought to Be A Law Essay Contest . Please see Mr. Grueninger for the application.
PFLAG, Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays Scholarship : Students must be a senior at least 17 years of age by April 16 th, have a proven record of working with the PFLAG. Students should contact Mr. Grueninger in the counseling office for an application.
University of Cincinnati ’s Educators and Community Helping Hispanics Onward Book Award Scholarship : Hispanic students need to contact Alana Partridge at : 556-1351 or Alana.partiridge@uc.edu. Deadline : June 1.

William Squires Educational Foundation $3,000 Scholarship : Students must have a GPA of .3.2 or higher. Applications can be downloaded at : www.wmd-squires-foundation.org. Deadline is : April 5.
Winners Club Scholarship : Eligibility, student with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and who has made an application in the field of education. Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden : Spring and Summer employment, students must be at least 16 years of age to work in the Gift Shop and Food Service. Students must be at least 18 years of age to work in Admissions, Parking, Buildings, Grounds, and Rides. Students interested should download the application at : www.cincinnatizoo.org. Urban League Youth Road to Success for Students between the ages of 14-18, teaches you entrepreneur skills, social skills and to assist students in intern programs. WCPO TV, Careers in Media (CIM) Minority High School Internship Program , for current juniors to explore various career opportunities in the media. These are UNPAID internship programs. Students should contact Mr. Grueninger in the counseling office for an application. Deadline is March 31.
Youth Works Career Training at the Urban League : Students who are ages 16-22, need to register any day of the week starting March 4-24 th by calling 513-487-6532.

Alfred University, New York, has Summer Enrichment Programs for students in grades 8-11 in Astronomy, Business, Creative Writing, Science and Engineering, and Swimming. Students should contact Mr. Grueninger in the counseling office for an application. Deadline is April 22 nd. For more information contact : 607-871-2425.
Miami University’s, “Bridges to Science Multicultural Program”, is a two week residential program for multicultural juniors, who has a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and who can stay on the Miami campus for two weeks, June 12 th-June 25 th. Grants for students; film and video projects - The university film and video association seeks applications from undergraduate and graduate students for UFB/UFVF Carole fielding student grants
Hertz foundation graduate fellowships program -Offers awards for physical sciences and engineering majors.
Howard Hughes Medical Institute - Fellowships for full-time study towards a PhD. or a Sc.D. degree in biological sciences.
Imaging scholarships (SIST) -Grant Raymond Davis scholarships to graduate or undergraduate students imaging, photographic science, or engineering, for study or research on image formation initiated by radiant energy.
Institute for human studies award- Film and fiction scholarships for students pursuing an M.F.A in filmmaking, fiction writing, or playwriting, who have demonstrated interest in classical liberal ideas and their application in contemporary society.

NASA - The graduate student research program (GRSP) offers fellowships for up to $22,000 for one year, renewable for up to three years. Students from minority groups, women, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
National Defense science and engineering graduate fellowships - seeks to identify individuals whose science and engineering credentials will support study through doctoral degrees. The prevailing goal is to provide the United States with talented, doctorally trained American men and women who will lead the state of the art in disciplines having the greatest payoff to national security requirements.
Spencer foundation dissertation fellowships program - Grants to fund research that contributes to the understanding of education and improvement of its practice. Applicants must be candidates for a doctoral degree and have completed all pre-dissertation requirements before June 1 of the fellowships year.
Switzer foundation environmental fellowships - awards one year grants to highly qualified individuals, with a strong commitment to the applied side of science, who plan graduate in California or New England .
WREI Congressional fellowships; awards fellowships to graduate students in the form of year long appointments as congressional aides to those students with a proven commitment equality for women. Stipends for living and tuition are provided.
