Absence/Attendance

Daily attendance is critical to academic success. Students are expected to attend school and all classes daily. Parents must notify the school each day their child is absent by calling the school office after 7:30 am at 363-7200. School doors will open at 7:45 am for students to enter the building.

Arrival

School doors will open at 7:45 am for all students to enter the building. Students in grades 7 and 8 will be directed to enter the building through Stairwell 5, located to the left of the courtyard. Students will pick up breakfast to eat in a designated area in the cafeteria. Students will then proceed to their classrooms located on the lower level via Stairwell 5.

Students in grades 9 through 12 will be directed to enter the building through the main student entrance, located in the center of the courtyard. Students will pick up breakfast to eat in a designated area of the cafeteria and then proceed to their classrooms, located on the ground or upper levels.

Students arriving after 9:15 am must enter the school through the main office.

Dismissal

The Dater High School day ends at 3:00 pm. A dismissal bell will prompt students in grades 7 and 8 to exit the building via Stairwell 1, which is located near the Main Office, and Stairwell 5, which is located near the Lower Level office. Students in grades 9-12 will be directed to exit the building through the main student entry, located near the cafeteria, or the exit near the Main Office.

Dress Code

Dater High School is not a uniform school; however, we DO have specific dress expectations that all students are expected to follow. The school expects students' attire and appearance to be suitable for an academic setting. Appropriate attire is a crucial component of academic success.

To ensure a positive and safe learning environment, students may NOT wear the following to school:

• Miniskirts, minidresses, low-rise pants, or short shorts that do not cover the bottom or that expose underlying boxer shorts/underwear
• Leggings or tights, unless they are covered with a dress, skirt, shorts, or long shirt that covers the backside.
• Crop tops, shirts that expose or reveal the midriff, or excessive cleavage
• Sheer/see-through clothing
• Hats, visors, hoods, bandanas, bonnets, doo-rags, ski masks, or sunglasses
• Muscle shirts/tank tops/camis/halter tops, unless covered with an outer shirt
• Headbands/t-shirts that display inappropriate pictures/words that may offend or threaten the
• safety of others
• Clothing, hats, or accessories that contain depictions that are gang/drug/alcohol/ tobacco-related, obscene/profane/sexual, or that may offend or threaten the safety of others
• Flip flops/slippers/house shoes, or roller skates
• Pajamas
• Clothing that is ripped, cut, or torn excessively

*Note: At the discretion of the administration, a student who is dressed inappropriately for
school may be excluded from school or class attendance until proper clothing is secured.

Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices/Cell Phones

Cincinnati Public Schools provides every student with access to its school computer system, computer networks, and the Internet for educational purposes only. All students are provided a laptop and must sign the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) form annually. If applicable, a Mobile Device Agreement (MDA) will be obtained digitally at school. Students must also use their assigned laptops with utmost physical care. Protective cases and charging cords are also provided to every student to keep their devices in proper working order. Students and their parents or guardians are financially responsible for any lost or damaged devices.

Yondr Bags, Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices
Cell phones and similar electronic devices are ubiquitous in our culture. The school building, however, where attention must be paid to the instructor, the lesson and its activities, and announcements and directions inside and outside the classroom, is no place for the distractions caused by these devices. Ohio House Bill 250 requires all public school districts, community schools, and STEM schools to adopt and enforce local policies restricting student cell phone usage during school hours. Cell phones, headphones, and other electronic devices are not allowed to be used and should be out of sight during the school days. Cell phones must remain locked in the Yondr Pouch throughout the school day.

If students are found with a device during the school day, it will result in the confiscation of the device, and a parent or guardian will be required to retrieve it from the main office. Chronic or excessive violations of the cell phone policy can result in the following: Parent Conference, Lunch or After-school detentions, Loss of privileges, including participation in after-school activities, Assignment to the Alternative Learning Classroom, and/or Emergency Removal.

Staff and teachers are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged devices. We will not search for those devices.
